A Question

How is it that Bill Ayers is known as an education “expert,” yet there is no appreciable academic improvement in education programs he has been involved with?

Camille post-election – She still likes Sarah

November 12, 2008 by auh2ogirl

Camille Paglia writes another brilliant column in Salon.  While I may not always agree with her, I like reading Paglia’s columns because I generally find her to be intellectually honest, which is hard to come by these days. In today’s column, she has hopes for Obama, thinks the media didn’t do its job, is disturbed by Ayers, and Dohrn and still likes Sarah.

Oh, and just for fun read through the comments – they’re a great snapshot of the tolerance, rationality, and open-mindedness of the far left.

Before filling that prescription…

I was watching the news yesterday morning and heard their resident medical “expert” gush about the new statin study.  The news reports of the study said that cholesterol-lowering drugs even help people who don’t have high cholesterol.

It pays to take the time to actually read a scientific study before accepting the conclusions touted in the news, especially where medicine and your health are concerned, and know what to look for when reading.  Dr. Michael Eades is a whiz at this, and often breaks down such studies for his readers, which he has  done with the Jupiter study.  Not all conclusions are what they seem.  Also, a diabetes blogger has picked this study apart.

By the way, did you know:

  • Statins have shown no benefit for women in preventing cardiovascular disease at all?
  • Elderly people actually have a negative correlation between cholesterol and heart disease?
  • In the small segment of the population that statins do seem to help, men over 65 who have already had a heart attack, the number needed to treat (NNT) is 100?  Which means that you would need to treat 100 people out of that small segment of the population to help one?

Other interesting info on cholesterol at Dr. Eades’ site.

Warming at an unprecedented rate!

November 11, 2008 by auh2ogirl

Er…no.  In fact, according to this NOAA map this year has been colder than average for most of the country (ht Drudge).

Which should come as no surprise to those who have been keeping an eye on the science, rather than the wishful thinking IPCC reports.  You already know that the planet hasn’t warmed in the past decade. Of course, the AGW muckety mucks know it too.  Hence, the term ‘global warming’ being replaced by ‘climate change’ or nonsensical explanations like we’re having a temporary cooling period, but boy is it going to get hot after that!

If you haven’t checked out Anthony Watts’ site, Watts Up With That, you really really should.  There’s a link in my blogroll.  Watts is an ex-weatherman (not of the Ayers variety) who noticed that there were strange temperature happenings at many of the US surface stations.  Upon visiting a few sites, he saw that the equipment was often in places it shouldn’t be, like rooftops, next to AC units, or in asphalt parking lots (all of which would affect temperature readings).  So, he put together a project to survey all of the stations in the country, with help from volunteers.  The results are quite interesting.  Then, he did us a favor and started a blog on current climate science.  Check it out.

What to do now

November 7, 2008 by auh2ogirl

Now that I’m not obsessing over the election, I can resume a normal life.  I went to a charity event last night for the children so I’m staying in tonight.  Got Jane Eyre (Masterpiece Theater 2006) from Netflix.  So far, very good.

What’s everyone else doing now that the election is over?

Congratulations President-elect Obama

November 5, 2008 by auh2ogirl

It’s done – and it can’t be undone.

What will happen?  Depends on the Obama we get as president.  We shall see.

We now have to focus on the things we can have an effect on – if enough people deluge their Senators and Representatives.

Cap and Trade

Taxes

The Fairness Doctrine

Universal Healthcare

To begin with.  And winning back some seats in 2010.

Oh, yeah, and making the Republican party remember what it’s supposed to be – the party of small government.

Don’t judge me, bro!

They can smell one a mile away…

Well well well.  First the report that the Russian media also thinks the American media is favoring BHO.  If anyone knows about propaganda, they do.

Now, Interfax has reported that:

"The majority among the Russian
community in the United States are going to vote for Republican John
McCain at the U.S. presidential election, the Moscow Bureau of Human
Rights (MBHR) told Interfax on Friday, after conducting a survey among
the Russian community in the U.S."

Interesting, no?  In fact, only 10% of them are voting for BHO.

People who experienced the joys of a totalitarian communist regime are not voting for Obama, and are voting for John McCain. What does that tell you?

Thomas Sowell, Part 2

The second part of Peter Robinson’s interview with America’s leading philosopher.  Still on the “constrained vision” and “unconconstrained vision” – this time applied to the presidential candidates.

So, the election isn’t even over and he’s already lowered “rich” threshold from 250K to 200K.  Like how he snuck that in there after the debates in an ad?

UPDATE: Hot Air put up a video of Joe of Scranton saying $150,000

This kind of reminds me of a song – How Does the Kool-Aid Wine taste?

Smells like almonds to me.

How fitting that Barbra Streisand sang it back in the 60s.

Suckers.
